KnowYouGo is a product of Ironic Technology LLC. The owners live and work in a college town and interact daily with college students. We hear the success stories of class attendance as well as the sad tales of young people who wasted a lot of time and their parents’ money. We are parents as well and know the high cost of college. We believe it is important for parents to be involved in the education process beyond simply footing the bill and then examining the grades once the semester is over.
A friend with a daughter that was a college athlete made a passing remark one day that was the impetus for creating KnowYouGo. Being familiar with the class attendance monitoring done by major athletic departments, he asked, “I wonder if parents would hire us to check if their kids are in class?” The manpower and the logistics required to do that in the traditional manner made it impractical. The idea remained and after several years of thought and planning became the KnowYouGo system.
The company name is a reference to the fact that the inventor of KnowYouGo was a serial class skipper. The transcripts of his less-than-stellar college career show the results of poor class attendance. The impact was made on his GPA and wallet as a result of more than the traditional four years needed to earn a degree. Thankfully those were days when tuition was a fraction of current rates, but the lessons learned remain. An old friend and college roommate commented after hearing the idea for KnowYouGo, “Aren’t you glad they didn’t have this when you were in school?” The immediate answer was “No, I would have been a much better student!” The hope we have for KnowYouGo is that it will prevent others from making those same costly mistakes and save their parents the worry and expense that come with them.
College students who have 99% or better class attendance have a FULL POINT better GPA on average than those who miss one or more classes per week.
“Go to class! I don’t know if anyone would skip class if they sat down and calculated how much you pay for each class.”
